The 2022 AOCLE annual educators workshop hosted by NOVA Southeastern College of Optometry was held in-person on June 2-5, 2022. The theme for the workshop was Keratoconus: What’s the Rub. The next annual workshop is scheduled for June 1-4, 2023 in Chicago hosted by Illinois College of Optometry.
The 2021 AOCLE annual educators workshop hosted by The Ohio State University was held virtually on June 4 and 5, 2021. The theme for the workshop was Myopia Management 2021. The next annual workshop is scheduled for June 2-5, 2022 in Ft. Lauderdale hosted by Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry.
The 2019 AOCLE annual educators workshop will be hosted by the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon from May 30- June 2, 2019. This year’s theme is “Rethinking Contact Lens Education in 2019“, as contact lens faculty at North America’s optometry schools come together to exchange ideas, methodologies and teaching materials to enhance contact lens education.
The 2018 annual workshop will be hosted by the Rosenberg School of Optometry at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas from May 31-June 2, 2018. This year’s theme is Look, Learn, Teach as contact lens faculty at North America’s optometry schools come together to exchange ideas, methodologies and teaching materials to enhance contact lens education.
We are also pleased to announce the addition of new Healthy Habits, this time for corneal reshaping in all three languages (English, French and Spanish) that can be downloaded directly from the website.
The 2014 AOCLE Annual Workshop will be held May 29 to June 1, 2014. This year’s program will be hosted by Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry in Glendale, AZ. . The topic of focus will be Case Based Learning. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit MUACO’s facilities.
The AOCLE held its annual meeting at the Western University of Health Sciences campus on May 30 – June 2, 2013. Contact lens educators and a record number of industry representatives were on hand to visit this new campus and learn teaching techniques to go with the theme, “Teaching With Technology.”
Speakers included Donald Egan, OD; Lance McNaughton, OD, PhD; Tiffenie Harris, OD; Frank Spors, EuroOptom, MS, PhD; Valerie Wren, OD; Tim Wood, MS, PA-C; Ruth Harris, MLIS, and Cherishea Coats all of Western University of Health Sciences. Representatives from technology company Echo 360 were also present to highlight the features of the WUCO lecture capture system.
Highlights of the meeting also included recognition of George Mertz New Educator Travel Grant Award recipients Dr. Kelvin Tang (UCB) and Dr. Chandra Mickles (RSO). Dr. Vinita Henry (UMSL) was given the Lester Janoff Memorial Award as recognition of her exceptional contributions to contact lens education. A huge thank you to everyone at WUCO for welcoming us to your campus this year!
The 4th edition of the Clinical CL Pocket guide as well as the revised Healthy SOFT CL Habits and the newly created Healthy GP CL Habits were developped over the summer of 2012. They were recently delivered to all the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year optometry students, residents and clinical faculty at all the 22 north American schools and colleges of optometry. These educational tools will assist in the CL education of students as well as the education of patients in the importance of care and handling of contact lenses.
The AOCLE held its annual meeting at the Indiana University (IU) campus on June 7-10, 2012. Contact lens educators and representatives from the contact lens industry were on hand to visit the campus, exchange educational approaches and see the latest research at the IU optometry school. This year’s theme focused on “Current Controversies in Optometry”. Keynote speakers included Dr. Des Fonn on the controversies surrounding corneal staining, Dr. Carolyn Begley on dry eye and Dr. Loretta Szczotka-Flynn on corneal infiltrates. Highlights of the meeting also included the recognition of the George Mertz New Educator Travel Award recipients; Drs Amy Dinardo (MCO), Nikki Rai (UW) and Christina Newman (SCCO). Dr. Jan Jurkus (ICO) was awarded the Les Janoff Memorial Award recognizing an exception contact lens educator. A huge thank you goes out to our IU hosts and supporting industry for providing an excellent opportunity to network, make new friends and learn more about contact lens education.
