Constitution
- Article I – Name
- The official name of the organization shall be the “Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators,” abbreviated “AOCLE.”
- Article II – Purpose
- The purpose of this organization is to promote the quality of contact lens education.
- Article III – Independence
- This organization is to remain independent of other groups.
- Article IV – Nonprofit purpose
- This organization shall function exclusively as a non-profit organization for the purpose of education as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is not organized for the private gain of any person.
By-Laws
- Article I – Name of the Organization
- The official name of the organization shall be the “Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators,” abbreviated “AOCLE.”
- Article II-Membership
- Membership will now be open to all qualified contact lens educators associated with North American Schools or Colleges of Optometry. Each Educational Institution shall have one vote within the organization.
- Article III – Meetings
- A meeting of the organization is to be held once a year, preferably in the summer (June to August). Other meetings and times may be set by the Executive Committee, with the input of the membership.
- Article IV – Offices and Terms
- The organization shall have a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer for two-year term of office. The treasurer may serve multiple two-year terms of office. The duties of the officers shall be those ordinarily assumed by officers of similar organizations.
- Article V – Executive Committee
- The Executive Committee shall consist of the Chair, Vice-Chair, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.
- Article VI – Funding
- Groups interested in funding the expenses of this organization shall be requested to submit a letter to the Executive Committee Chair and/or Treasurer.
- Article VII – Organization of Annual Meeting
- The Executive Committee shall have the responsibility each year of organizing an annual meeting.
- Article VIII – Political Limitation
- No substantial part of the activities of this organization shall consist of carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the organization shall not participate or intervene in any political campaign (including the publishing or distribution of statements) on behalf of any candidate for public office.
- Article IX – Dedication
- The property of this organization is irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes and no part of the net income or assets of this organization shall ever inure to the benefit of any director, officer, or private person.
- Article X – Dissolution
- In the event of dissolution, all assets, real and personal, shall be distributed to such organizations as are qualified as tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or the corresponding provisions of a future United States Internal Revenue Law. The various Schools and Colleges of Optometry in the United States shall have priority as the receiving organizations in this event.
- Article XI – Amendments
- These By-laws may be amended at a business meeting of the AOCLE by an affirmative vote of two-thirds of those Educational Institutions present. By-law amendments may be proposed by the Executive Committee or by 25% of the Educational Institutions.
